Spicy Strawberry Gin and Tonic

The (in)credible science

Thanks to organic fertilizers like those from True Organic Products, organic farming releases 50% less reactive nitrogen into the environment. Most non-organic crops are grown using synthetic fertilizers that release nitrous oxide, a potent greenhouse gas, and pollute our waterways. Organic fertilizers support beneficial microorganisms in the soil, which break down old plant material and convert nutrients into food.

The Recipe

If you like spicy and sweet this cocktail is for you! Chef Megan Mitchell really hit the nail on the head with this Spicey Strawberry Gin and Tonic. Toast at your next celebration, cozy up by the fire, or cheers to making your first cocktail. It’s made with Santa Cruz Organic 100% authentic organic lemon juice and  organic jalapeños and strawberries grown with  True Organic Fertilizer. Not only is organic farming sustainable, but organic fruits can also taste better! In a consumer test, participants preferred organic lemons for their flavor, aroma, and acidity.

5 strawberries, washed and green tops removed

1 jalapeño, thinly sliced (grown with True Organic Fertilizer)

3 sprigs mint

2 ounces gin

1 ounce Santa Cruz Organic Lemon Juice

.5 ounces agave

Crushed ice

Tonic, for topping off

Roughly chop 4 strawberries. Thinly slice the remaining 1 for garnish.

To a cocktail shaker add the 4 chopped strawberries, 2-3 slices of jalapeño and 2 sprigs mint. Muddle for 30 seconds then add in the gin, lemon juice, agave and 1/4 cup ice. Vigorously shake for 15 seconds.

Fill a short glass with crushed ice then strain in the cocktail. Top off with tonic water and garnish with a few strawberry and jalapeño slices and a sprig of mint.
