New Years Resolution Eight: Think Long-Term

The last year has seen a jump in the number of long-term research studies about the benefits of organic farming. Researchers have had their eye on organic for a while now, and we’re starting to understand the full picture of how organic supports humans and the planet over many years. One study found that the environmental benefits of organic improve over time: researchers found that the negative environmental impact of farming systems decreased the longer they were in organic production. Another study showed that as time under organic management increases so do ecosystem services. We also saw that the longer farmers farm organically the higher their yields, and that with time, the difference in yield between organic and conventional systems decreases.
