In California’s Central valley, researchers have launched a project to support bee health. One of their approaches is to identify bee-friendly plants that farmers and ranchers can grow easily on their property. These plants will provide food to bees, aiding their dwindling populations. This isn’t the only good news for bees. The federal government recently announced a new $3 million program to support bees in the Upper Midwest. The program will target farmers and ranchers, encouraging them to grow crops that support bee health, such as alfalfa and clover. It’s especially important to remember that if you want to help bees, don’t use pesticides. Many pesticides have been shown to harm bees, and even planting bee-friendly plants could cause bees some serious damage if they are sprayed with toxins!
